I am always apprehensive when it comes to developing long term friendships, especially the way that things change so severely from day to day. Yes I have been called a hermit on a few occasions, however, I consider that to be my way of protecting myself from the pain and suffering that friendships sometimes bring. The problem is that my method can be decidedly wrong, especially if we desire peace with our neighbors. The mood in the Middle East is a perfect example as to the negative effects that transpire when we don’t seek out and maintain long term friendships, the sincere ones that is.

As children we are all taught what it means to be choosing right from wrong, or at least we should be. The devil already has the adult population right where he wants us, so the only thing left to go after is the children of tomorrow. Parents are having a much more difficult time keeping our future generation where they should be and that fact probably is encouraged by the aggressive nature of the beast from below. When the children should turn away, they instead walk towards the evil, making the job of the beast that much easier. We have allowed ourselves to head into a free-fall and we all know where it will end.

Life has a way of throwing us many curve balls that we would seriously prefer to avoid, yet if we are to become stronger in Jesus Christ, we should take comfort in the fact that these curve balls are intended to make us ever so much stronger. The Lord wants an army of soldiers that can withstand almost anything, so deciding to follow Jesus, while guaranteeing you a place in heaven, also opens you up to be trained to be dependable and accurate in the guidelines that our Savior wants us to follow. As a soldier in any army, we are trained to deal with combat situations, in the same way, soldiers in God’s army are trained to deal with temptations and attacks from the devil.

Have you ever stopped to consider some of the reasons why things are taking such a southerly direction in our society today? The United States in particular has lost quite a bit of its punch and we appear to be losing our initiative. The sad part is that we already know the reason why, but we are simply to thick headed to correct it while we can. Silver and Opium (or money and drugs) seem to be the most popular things on our mind, rather than leading a life that is as we are expected to. We need to get back to the way things were, letting God rain down His blessings on us as He used to, instead of choosing a life that is full of sludge and Satan.

As children we are taught that we should share and play nice with our friends, at least I was anyway. These days it seems as though we are more interested in what we can get from our neighbors (no longer called friends) while we concentrate on other more interesting projects and sinful activities that we can get into. Extending a helping hand to others is the last thing on the minds of many of us, leaving your good Samaritan stories as something that hardly ever exists anymore. I guess we have all forgotten that someone died to save us, yet that love and consideration simply does not appear to exist anymore.
