There is much controversy about what exactly is a soul and where it goes after we die. Some people are determined to follow the teaching (which is wrong) that when we die we go straight to heaven, while others follow the belief that the soup is removed from the body and hangs out in limbo. To understand what happens it helps to deal with the question how did God create a soul as that will explain everything all nice and neatly. If we think of things from a sleeping point of view then believing that we see God as soon as we die is partly true but we should consider that we will not see Him until we awake from our sleep.
