I have always maintained that what we have with our Lord and savior should be a relationship, not a religion, after all it is not what we say we have, rather what we actually have that counts. True religion does have rules and rituals, but there is a crucial difference. In true religion, the rules and rituals are observed out of gratitude for the salvation God has provided – NOT in an effort to obtain that salvation. True religion, which is Biblical Christianity, has rules to obey (do not murder, do not commit adultery, do not lie, etc.) and rituals to observe (water baptism by immersion and the Lord’s Supper / Communion). Observance of these rules and rituals is not what makes a person right with God. Rather, these rules and rituals are the RESULT of the relationship with God, by grace through faith in Jesus Christ alone as the Savior. False religion is doing things (rules and rituals) in order to try to earn God’s favor. True religion is receiving Jesus Christ as Savior and thereby having a right relationship with God – and then doing things (rules and rituals) out of love for God and desire to grow closer to Him. If you are a true Christian this philosophy will not be difficult to understand, simply because you will already be there.

If we are living a Christian life where the only thing that is important is the return of Jesus Christ, we should fear not tomorrow, because it will be glorious. The Bible mentions two specific types of fear. The first type is beneficial and is to be encouraged. The second type is a detriment and is to be overcome. The first type of fear is fear of the Lord. This type of fear does not necessarily mean to be afraid of something. Rather, it is a reverential awe of God; a reverence for His power and glory. However, it is also a proper respect for His wrath and anger. In other words, the fear of the Lord is a total acknowledgement of all that God is, which comes through knowing Him and His attributes. It all becomes an eyeopener once we understand the love and kindness that our Savior wants to provide us.

Knowing what I know about how this world is going to be turning out I am certainly glad to be considered as one of the remnants (chosen) people, after all, the alternative is not in the least bit encouraging. A remnant is a left-over amount from a larger portion or piece, whether it is food, material from which a garment is fashioned, or even a group of people. Although remnants could be looked upon as worthless scraps, and many times are, God assigned high value to those of His people whom He had set aside for holy purposes, those He labels as “remnants” in several places in the Bible. To begin, in Isaiah 10 the story is told of the Lord’s judgment upon the Assyrians. In Verse 12 God says: “I will punish the king of Assyria for the willful pride of his heart and the haughty look in his eyes.” He continues in Verse 17, 18: “The Light of Israel will become a fire, their Holy One a flame; in a single day it will burn and consume his thorns and his briar’s The splendor of his forests and fertile fields I will completely destroy, as when a sick man wastes away. If we are having thoughts about following Satan and his band of thugs, we should get rid of it right away.

How is it possible for one to be born again? The bible tells us that in order to be saved and to enter the kingdom of heaven, we must be born again. As Jesus talked with Nicodemus, He said, “’I tell you the truth, no one can see the kingdom of God unless he is born again’ ‘How can a man be born when he is old?’ Nicodemus asked. ‘Surely he cannot enter a second time into his mother’s womb to be born!’ Jesus answered, ‘I tell you the truth, no one can enter the kingdom of God unless he is born of water and the Spirit. Flesh gives birth to flesh, but the Spirit gives birth to spirit. You should not be surprised at my saying, ‘You must be born again’. Although the word keeps getting out, by the standard of many, it may not be considered as fast enough.

The word of God tells us that when Jesus Christ returns for His children there will be three or four blasts of the trumpet announcing His arrival. The concept of the return of Christ being like a thief in the night comes from Matthew 24:43: “But understand this: If the owner of the house had known at what time of night the thief was coming, he would have kept watch and would not have let his house be broken into.” The essential elements of Jesus’ warning are that no one knows when He will return, and we have to be in a state of preparedness, always looking and watching for His imminent return. Jesus warned that being prepared for His return at all times is the way we are to live our lives because no one except the Father knows the hour of His return. I don’t know about you but climbing to the top of all the filth that is called this earth seems to be the most important agenda in my life right now.
