I had the distinct impression that there was nothing that could hurt me.

When I was younger I had the distinct impression that there was nothing that could hurt me, almost as though I was invincible. Why is it that children believe that for the rest of their natural born lives,    they can come to no harm? “It wasn’t so long ago that we ourselves were stupid and stubborn, dupes of sin, ordered every which way by our glands, going around with a chip on our shoulder, hated and hating back. But when God, our kind and loving Savior God, stepped in, he saved us from all that. It was all his doing; we had nothing to do with it. He gave us a good bath, and we came out of it new people, washed inside and out by the Holy Spirit. Our Savior Jesus poured out new life so generously. God’s gift has restored our relationship with him and given us back our lives. And there’s more life to come, an eternity of life! You can count on this.” (TITUS)

As they get older, teenagers have one tracked minds and that usually means, good times and splitting headaches. “(Don’t you even know the basics, how things have been since the earliest days, when Adam and Eve were first placed on earth? The good times of the wicked are short-lived; godless joy is only momentary. The evil might become world famous, strutting at the head of the celebrity parade, But still end up in a pile of dung. Acquaintances look at them with disgust and say, ‘What’s that?’ They fly off like a dream that can’t be remembered, like a shadowy illusion that vanishes in the light. Though once notorious public figures, now they’re nobodies, unnoticed, whether they come or go. Their children will go begging on skid row, and they’ll have to give back their ill-gotten gain. Right in the prime of life, and youthful and vigorous, they’ll die.” (JOB)

I firmly believe that the way we turn out is directly related to the people that we look up to, so all I can say is thank God that I had exemplary role models to guide me, otherwise, who knows how I would have turned out. “God’s readiness to give and forgive is now public. Salvation’s available for everyone! We’re being shown how to turn our backs on a godless, indulgent life, and how to take on a God-filled, God-honoring life. This new life is starting right now, and is whetting our appetites for the glorious day when our great God and Savior, Jesus Christ, appears. He offered himself as a sacrifice to free us from a dark, rebellious life into this good, pure life, making us a people he can be proud of, energetic in goodness.” (TITUS)

There are many reasons why someone embarks on a life of crime.

Have you ever wandered what it is that causes individuals to embark on a life of crime?  It can be even more bizarre if the people involved come from a well to do family, if we were to take a closer look at the accomplice, we would realize that he is none other than Satan. “God and Jesus and angels all back me up in these instructions. Carry them out without favoritism, without taking sides. Don’t appoint people to church leadership positions too hastily. If a person is involved in some serious sins, you don’t want to become an unwitting accomplice. In any event, keep a close check on yourself. And don’t worry too much about what the critics will say. Go ahead and drink a little wine, for instance; it’s good for your digestion, good medicine for what ails you.” (1 TIMOTHY)

There are many reasons why someone embarks on a life of crime, (I am referring mostly to stealing here) but the primary reason is for self survival. Then there is such a thing as an evil human being whose sole purpose is to wreak havoc and ma-ham. “God saw that human evil was out of control. People thought evil, imagined evil, evil, evil, evil from morning to night. God was sorry that he had made the human race in the first place; it broke his heart. God said, “I’ll get rid of my ruined creation, make a clean sweep: people, animals, snakes and bugs, birds, the works. I’m sorry I made them.” (GENESIS)

It is this mind altering society that has caused much of its individuals to search for a life of crime, in many cases simply to support habits such as drugs, cigarettes and alcohol. “ God spoke to Moses: “Speak to the People of Israel; tell them, If any of you, man or woman, wants to make a special Nazi-rite vow, consecrating yourself totally to God, you must not drink any wine or beer, no intoxicating drink of any kind, not even the juice of grapes, in fact, you must not even eat grapes or raisins. For the duration of the consecration, nothing from the grapevine, not even the seeds, not even the skin, may be eaten.” (NUMBERS)

The number of people who delve into the occult has increased.

I am not what you might consider as the superstitious kind, so whenever someone talks to me about spirits and they see dead people, I am usually not willing to listen to them. I am of the firm belief that such topics should remain silent and away from my conversation. “God’s Message came to me: “Son of man, lay out two roads for the sword of the king of Babylon to take. Start them from the same place. Place a signpost at the beginning of each road. Post one sign to mark the road of the sword to Rab-bah of the Ammonites. Post the other to mark the road to Judah and Fort Jerusalem. The king of Babylon stands at the fork in the road and he decides by divination which of the two roads to take. He draws straws, he throws god-dice, he examines a goat liver. He opens his right hand: The omen says, ‘Head for Jerusalem!’ So he’s on his way with battering rams, roused to kill, sounding the battle cry, pounding down city gates, building siege works.” (EZEKIEL)

What I have found though is that the number of people who delve in that sort of occult behavior (which is what it is) has increased. In order not to be accused of any sort of prejudice behavior and at the same time remain focused on what I should be doing, I have to maintain some level of discipline and finesse. “Friends, this world is not your home, so don’t make yourselves cozy in it. Don’t indulge your ego at the expense of your soul. Live an exemplary life among the natives so that your actions will refute their prejudices. Then they’ll be won over to God’s side and be there to join in the celebration when he arrives.” (1 PETER)

Even though I believe I have made my beliefs pretty clear on things such as horoscopes, spirits and such, many of my friends and acquaintances believe that I should come running whenever they have something in that department that they feel I should hear. “Just as a thief is chagrined, but only when caught, so the people of Israel are chagrined, Caught along with their kings and princes, their priests and prophets. They walk up to a tree and say, ‘My father!’ They pick up a stone and say, ‘My mother! You bore me!’ All I ever see of them is their backsides. They never look me in the face. But when things go badly, they don’t hesitate to come running, calling out, ‘Get a move on! Save us!’ Why not go to your handcrafted gods you’re so fond of? Rouse them. Let them save you from your bad times. You’ve got more gods, Judah, than you know what to do with.” (JEREMIAH)
