Should we keep on sinning so God can keep on forgiving?

The Bible tells us that the meek shall inherit the earth, while those who think that they are better than the rest, well they don’t have much of a prayer. “Jesus then appeared, arriving at the Jordan River from Galilee. He wanted John to baptize him. John objected, “I’m the one who needs to be baptized, not you!” But Jesus insisted. “Do it. God’s work, putting things right all these centuries, is coming together right now in this baptism.” So John did it. The moment Jesus came up out of the baptismal waters, the skies opened up and he saw God’s Spirit, it looked like a dove, descending and landing on him. And along with the Spirit, a voice: “This is my Son, chosen and marked by my love, delight of my life.” (Matthew)

Asking someone to forgive you is just as important to a Christian as the ability to forgive  is considered. It is most unfortunate that some Christians are under the impression that since they asked for forgiveness, they can continue sinning until Jesus returns. “So what do we do? Keep on sinning so God can keep on forgiving? I should hope not! If we’ve left the country where sin is sovereign, how can we still live in our old house there? Or didn’t you realize we packed up and left there for good? That is what happened in baptism. When we went under the water, we left the old country of sin behind; when we came up out of the water, we entered into the new country of grace, a new life in a new land! That’s what baptism into the life of Jesus means. When we are lowered into the water, it is like the burial of Jesus; when we are raised up out of the water, it is like the resurrection of Jesus. Each of us is raised into a light-filled world by our Father so that we can see where we’re going in our new grace-sovereign country.” (Romans)

We too will be expected to judge others, without condemnation or favoritism.

Temptations will always be our downfall, considering that Satan is working around the clock to lead us astray, however we must remember that once we have accepted Jesus Christ as our Lord and Savior, we are now playing for the winning team.“Now Joshua was clothed with filthy garments ‘ Thus sinners appear before the enemy who by his masterly, deceptive power has led them away from allegiance to God. With garments of sin and shame the enemy clothes those who have been overpowered by his temptations, and then he declares that it is unfair for Christ to be their light, their defender. (E.G.W. – MS 125, 1901)

There will come a time that as simple and subtle as we all are, we too will be expected to judge others, without condemnation or favoritism. We will be seated at that station where we will be asked our opinion. “And how dare you take each other to court! When you think you have been wronged, does it make any sense to go before a court that knows nothing of God’s ways instead of a family of Christians? The day is coming when the world is going to stand before a jury made up of followers of Jesus. If someday you are going to rule on the world’s fate, wouldn’t it be a good idea to practice on some of these smaller cases? Why, we’re even going to judge angels! So why not these everyday affairs? As these disagreements and wrongs surface, why would you ever entrust them to the judgment of people you don’t trust in any other way?” (1 Corinthians)

None of us are perfect, so those who insist on offering that opinion to others are simply fooling themselves and acting like a fool. Time to remove those airs and be humble to the fact that we cannot do this by ourselves. “Joshua, standing before the angel, was dressed in dirty clothes. The angel spoke to his attendants, “Get him out of those filthy clothes,” and then said to Joshua, “Look, I’ve stripped you of your sin and dressed you up in clean clothes.” (Hebrews)

Face to face with one of God’s many Angels.

Christians are privy to many forms of communication with God, if they open their hearts. God not only uses His Holy Spirit to communicate with us through his word, He also sends His Angels to show us the way. “Later God’s angel spoke to Philip: “At noon today I want you to walk over to that desolate road that goes from Jerusalem down to Gaza.” He got up and went. He met an Ethiopian eunuch coming down the road. The eunuch had been on a pilgrimage to Jerusalem and was returning to Ethiopia, where he was minister in charge of all the finances of Candace, queen of the Ethiopians. He was riding in a chariot and reading the prophet Isaiah.” (Acts)

There are times in our darkest hour that we will come face to face with one of God’s many Angels. “With our appetite for both food and life long gone, Paul took his place in our midst and said, “Friends, you really should have listened to me back in Crete. We could have avoided all this trouble and trial. But there’s no need to dwell on that now. From now on, things are looking up! I can assure you that there will not be a single drowning among us, although I can’t say as much for the ship, the ship itself is doomed. “Last night God’s angel stood at my side, an angel of this God I serve, saying to me, ‘Don’t give up, Paul. You’re going to stand before Caesar yet, and everyone sailing with you is also going to make it.’ So, dear friends, take heart. I believe God will do exactly what he told me. But we’re going to shipwreck on some island or other.” (Acts)

Conventionally speaking we find ourselves expecting to see an Angel dressed in white and  flying around with a set of wings, however, we may just want to rethink that vision. “Stay on good terms with each other, held together by love. Be ready with a meal or a bed when it’s needed. Why, some have extended hospitality to angels without ever knowing it! Regard prisoners as if you were in prison with them. Look on victims of abuse as if what happened to them had happened to you. Honor marriage, and guard the sacredness of sexual intimacy between wife and husband. God draws a firm line against casual and illicit sex.”(Hebrews)
