We take for granted some of the simpler things in life, such as the right to vote, the ability to get up in the morning on our own power, the ability to walk and talk and carry on a conversation with another human being because we happen to be free to do so. We have the ability to go for a walk in the park, watch a move, one that we really want to see, not one that fifty or sixty other men or women have to vote on first.
Being able to choose the restaurant we want to eat at, or just go to the grocery and pick up some items from the grocery, bring them home and cook it ourselves. Going to sleep when we want to and sleeping in when we have no desire to go anywhere. Grabbing your cell phone and calling someone, just to chat, just before you go to sleep of while you are on break from you job. We take all these things for granted as sure as if we always had them in our lives.
If you ever want to see what it is like to lose any of these freedoms, it would be as easy as breaking a law and going to jail or prison. There your life will be controlled to the fullest, and many times you do not even have the ability to think for yourself, unless of course you are so frustrated by the culture shock that you plan an escape.
