Watching a comedy at the theater can have its advantages, but it can also be quite enlightening. I recently saw “Cop Out” with Bruce Willis and Tracy Morgan, which was quite hilarious by the way. While waiting 0n the movie to start, I was taken aback by all the activity going on around me. There was a time when individuals waiting on a movie would just sit and talk, if they came with someone that is.
Technology shows up everywhere these days, especially with the new generation. At least fifty percent of the viewing audience were using some sort of electronic device. I would say that it was impressive to see all the different iPod’s, cellular phones, smart phone’s and even PDA’s were present and in use. What was probably more of a concern to me was the fact that the majority of the “users” were teenager’s.
The age factor concern to me was how our new generation appears to be turning out, being totally dependent on technology to “pass the time” could be a double edged sword. On the one hand these kids are making use of their time and naturally this will train them to be productive all the time. On the other hand, however, this does not say much for the “new” social skills being developed, especially when kids would rather text their friends, even when they happen to be sitting right next to them.
